We respond with a sensitive exploration into supportive, crafted spaces for healthcare.

Inhabiting a three-storey terrace in Melbourne’s chic inner-north Fitzroy, Life Fertility Clinic reimagines the experience of IVF, through a luxurious, hospitality-driven design solution.

The building’s strong heritage character provides an evocative springboard for thoughtfully composed interiors, geared toward comfort and specialised care. Life Fertility houses a complete range of services, from consultations with doctors to scans, nursing assessments and IVF procedures.

Navigating the complex internal operations required of a medical facility, the conceptually ambitious project is the result of rigorous planning and attention to detail. We collaborated with expert heritage consultants, project architects and service engineers to ensure our build was responsive to the needs of staff and end users, as well as being respectful to the existing structure.

Upon entry, visitors are met by a quiet Nordic-inspired setting in reception, waiting and consulting rooms. Original built elements, including intricate mouldings, skirtings, architraves and timber balustrades are restored and celebrated through a nuanced contemporary palette. Walls in soft blue and mauve provide a soothing backdrop to plush upholstered lounges in wonderfully textured boucle, fabric and velvet, with richly woven rugs underfoot. Ample natural light filters into the space through sheer, floor-to-ceiling linen curtains.

Going beyond furniture and fixtures, we applied a holistic approach to achieve a flexibly functional, harmonious and health-driven environment – a place to counter the sterile, unappealing spaces more regularly associated with healthcare.
